  • Our Causes

Across the United States and around the world, Sewa International USA works with communities to respond to crises, support families, expand access to education, and build a culture of volunteerism. Our work is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and long-term impact — empowering people not to recover, but to thrive.

Causes

Disaster Relief

When disaster strikes, hours matter — and Sewa's volunteers are among the first to move. From hurricanes and floods at home to cyclones and earthquakes across the world, our teams mobilize quickly to deliver food, water, and medical aid, while helplines connect survivors to rescue and relief on the ground. But our work doesn't end when the headlines fade. Through long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding, we stay with affected families until their homes, livelihoods, and communities are whole again.

Education and Leadership

From a child's first classroom moments to a teen's first time leading, this is where Sewa invests in the next generation. ASPIRE, our after-school program, gives students from kindergarten through sixth grade the academic mentorship and language support they need to build confidence and fluency. LEAD, our flagship youth leadership program, carries them further — through summer cohorts, mentorship, and hands-on service projects that turn young people into the changemakers their communities need.

Community Care

Care begins close to home. Through Family Services, our trained volunteers walk alongside families through life's hardest moments — offering case management, health and wellness support, education and awareness, and a helpline for emergencies, hospitalization, and bereavement. And through SERVE, volunteers across our chapters give their time to the neighbors who need it most, from food drives to senior support to local projects that bring people together. This is where service becomes community.

Health and Well-Being

Good health is the foundation of a good life. Through Doctors for Sewa, medical professionals deliver free clinics, health fairs, and preventive care to underserved communities — while mentoring the next generation of physicians through programs like EVOLVE. Our SELF program (Sleep, Exercise, Living in the present, and Food) helps people build balanced, active lifestyles and take charge of their everyday wellness. And Yoga for Sewa, along with International Yoga Day, makes physical and mental well-being a shared, accessible practice for every age. Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy community.

Advocacy and Policy

Real change needs more than good intentions — it needs good policy, informed by real experience. Through the Policy Café, Sewa brings together experts, practitioners, and civic leaders for candid conversations that turn grassroots insight into actionable ideas on the issues shaping community well-being, from aging with dignity to ending hunger. And through the Sewa Forum, we create space for dialogue, learning, and thought leadership that connects lived experience to systems-level thinking. It's how service on the ground becomes a voice at the table.

International Development

Compassion doesn't stop at borders. Through Sponsor a Child (SAC), your support helps children in vulnerable communities stay in school during hardship — providing learning essentials, stability, and the confidence to keep dreaming forward. And through SHE, we empower women and girls with sanitation, hygiene education, and skill-building that restore dignity and open doors to a livelihood. Together, these programs invest in the education and empowerment that let whole communities rise.
