SHE — Sewa's flagship project for the girl child.
SHE stands for Sanitation, Hygiene, and Empowerment. It's a project run by Sewa International to give girls in India's rural, remote, and tribal communities something basic that's often missing: a safe, secure, and healthy place to live and learn.
The work starts with a simple but life-changing thing — toilets. In many of these communities, girls and women have no choice but to relieve themselves in open fields, which isn't safe and pushes girls to skip drinking water or drop out of school altogether. SHE builds toilet facilities in homes, neighborhoods, and schools so girls don't have to choose between their dignity and their education.
From there, the project grows: menstrual hygiene education and sanitary kits, skill-development workshops that help women earn a livelihood, and post-Covid family rehabilitation through its SHE-CAF program.
